Oval Turning with Alan Lacer using the Vicmarc VOD300
Alan, Is the Vicmarc VOD300 designed specifically for turning oval objects or is this just a feature of this lathe? I noticed in the video that the cam kept the edge of the workpiece the same distance from the tool stand. Is it dedicated to oval work or can you turn normally? I want to buy a lathe and typically buy the best tool I can afford. I would prefer to buy a lathe I can "grow" into and continue to be excited about rather than one that I regretted because it was too limited. I am in the tree care business and see some nice burls, spaulted maple, etc. that I would love to turn. I'd like to turn some bigger items, too, but would also like to be able to turn a pencil post for a bed without having to own more than one machine. Is there such an animal? Any advice? Thanks for your time. Phil Crump
