I know my geometry teacher would be ashamed but darned if I can remember how to do this.   I need to scribe an oval to insert a sink into a counter top and the sink didn't come with a template.  I remember a method using 2 nails and a lop of string but don't remember the measurements for placing the nails or loop of string.  And yes I know I can flip the sink and draw the outline BUT I know the 'how to' will come in handy one of these days.

Any help would be appreciated

To draw an oval is really quite simple, don’t even consider the math, just draw what you want.  For the how to, take a look at this site: http://www.mathopenref.com/constellipse1.html

But, to really make it easy, use a tool:

 Or

Better yet make your own:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgT5deym1Qk
