I read the article in the April/May 2011 Mag about Wipe on/ Rub off finishing. My question is do you give like 24 hrs between coats or do you do the procedure back to back for 3 coats?

Thanks, Harlan

Hi Harlan.

You have to allow each coat to dry before applying another coat. The drying time depends on the type of wipe on/rub off finish you use, so start by following the directions on the can. Gel varnishes dry so fast you can often apply two coats in a day. Blended finishes, such as Danish oils and  the boiled linseed oil/pure tung oil/polyurethane varnish combination the story talks about dry more slowly; they can require a day or longer to dry. In general, allowing 24 hours between coats is a good practice.
