What is the best way to join cedar boards to make one large piece? I have been told that tongue and groove is the only effective way.
Depends on what you're building.
If it's for a piece of furniture you can to simply joint the edges square and glue them together. Make sure the wood is dry (6-12% depending on your area of the country)
If it's for an paneled wall, then T&G is a very good option. It allows each peice to expand and contract without creating a viable gap between the pieces.
