I have two doors I've been asked to repair and refinish. Doors are 60+ years and badly weathered on the out side. Exposed side is very dry and grain is raised. Should I sand down or is there some finish I can put on to somehow rehydrate the wood. I can't get to rough as both doors have poured glass window both oval and retangular that need to be saved and put back in.
If you don not mind a raised finish, I would put some tung oil (boiled linseed oil) on the door, it will darken it somewhat. Let it dry, add more color to satisfy your self and then put some SPAR varnish to provide the maximum sun protection and sealing of the door.
Not a professional finisher, but have worked with wood for the last 70 years.
