If I use a paste wood filler on a piece of oak can I still successfully glue to the surface of the piece. My intentions would be to do the glue up after the paste wood filler is used and dried and then add the finish etc. DetDad
Using the paste wood filler will fill the pores of the wood and inhibit glue penetration, so it's not recommended. Taping over the surfaces would work though. It's standard practice to apply the paste wood filler after the project is built. What benifit are you trying to achieve by applying it to the parts before assembly?
Thanks for your response. The manufacture made the same recommendation with respect to not filling the areas to be glue. My thinking out loud was that since I would be finish sanding over the paste filler that the glue would adhere. That is why I asked before I proceeded. In reply to your question, by filling the pieces seperately I could more efficently apply, scrap and sand the piece. Thanks
