I have a 70 yr. old rolcker that has set out and all the finish is off of it. I want tfo use a few coats of polyurethan on it but wife thinks I should stain it first.Anyoe have some ideas as to what I should do? I need all the help I can get on this one,,,,HELP..........Roy
Hi Roy,
Stain is completely up to you if you want to change/add color to your rocker. I might suggest if it has been sitting a long time with no finish, the wood needs to be rejuvenated. Apply boiled linseed oil to it. Keep doing so until the oil no longer will soak in. It is also good for the wood if the rocker continues to sit outside. Once the oil dries thoroughly, you can apply an oil based polyurethane if you wish. Have fun, and send in a before and after picture when you are done. I love a good rocker.

Thank you Chad for your answer. Although the question was not from me, I find it very helpful since we have a lot of wood furniture at home. This would be a very helpful information.
Will varnish be okay in a table made of jack fruit tree?
Sure. I don't see why not. Varnish would work. Vanish will "age" and slightly darken in time giving it a nice patina. Jackfruit wood is a good wood for furniture and even out door furnitrue. A little history is, you can boil the sawdust of this wood with alum to make yellowish dye. It's how the buddhist priests used to color their robes.
Sure varnish should be okay for ya. If itsoutside make sure it's an exterior varnish. Interesting fact, you can take sawdust from jack fruit boil it with alum and it makes a nice yellow dye. It was what Buddhist monks used to dye their robes with long ago.
