Oct/Nov 2010 issue article "Make Poplar Look Pretty", says "To make the stain controller, mix one part General Finishes Clear Gel Varnish with three parts paint thinner."  I have checked General Finishes website and my local retailer and neither carries GF Clear Gel Varnish. Any sugestions???

Hi TIm.

We goofed. The product used in the story is General Finishes Topcoat—which is clear gel varnish. Also, Step 7 of the text says to apply a coat of GF medium brown gel stain. To be more specific, use either GF "Nutmeg" or "Antique Walnut—but just about any medium brown gel stain will work. It's OK to experiment!
