I used to have trouble clamping to my drill press table because the underside was uneven. I fixed this by fitting a board to the bottom of the table. It was a little challenging to get the fit right because of all the webbing and ridges, but I finally got it. I drilled and countersunk a couple of holes in the metal table and attached the board with wood screws.
