9th Annual Excellence in Woodworking Show

Where: Mesa Centennial Hall, Mesa Convention Center, 201 N. Center St., Mesa, AZ

Details: This latest presentation by the Arizona Association of Fine Woodworkers prov ides an opportunity to showcase members’ achievements and activities as well as to hold a competition within various categories. This competition is open to all woodworkers and is conducted according to the procedures outlined in this brochure. Show entries will be judged in the following categories at five skill levels: Student, Novice, Advanced, Master and Professional.

Categories: Furniture, Functional Accessories, Art, Toys & Models, Intarsia, Scroll saw Work, Musical instruments, Marquetry / Veneering, Turnings – Segmented, Turnings – Center Work, Turnings – Face Work, Box - Maximum dimension 18” in any one direction, Other.

34th Annual Utah Woodturning Symposium

When:May 16-18, 2013

Where: Utah Valley University campus in the UCCU Events Center in Orem, Utah

Details: The Timpanogos Woodturners and the Utah Association of Woodturners along with Craft Supplies USA are happy to announce plans for May 16-18, 2013, for the highly acclaimed Utah Woodturning Symposium! Engage with today’s top professionals and up and coming woodturners in a friendly, informal learning environment with over 90 demonstrations to choose from and a full schedule of Special Events. It will be held on the Utah Valley University campus in the UCCU Events Center in Orem, Utah.

This year’s Demonstrators include: Interact with Demonstrators; Nick Arnull, Mark Baker, Clinton Biggs, Dennis Liggett, Andy Cole, Cynthia Gibson, J. Paul Fennell, Steve Hagen, Jerry Sambrook, Mark Supik, Mick Hanbury, David Drescher, Vic Wood, John Wessels, Dale Nish, Mike Mahoney, Kip Christensen, Alan and Mary Lacer, Tim Heil, Joe Herrmann, Ken Wraight and Kurt Hertzog.

Special Exhibition: View an extraordinary exhibition of Selected Works from the Dale Nish Collection. The 2013 display will be entirely different pieces from those that were on display in 2012. It is not often one is able to view turnings from so many of the world’s greatest woodturners all under the same roof.

The Dale Nish Collection is not only a collection of spectacular woodturnings from around the world but is also a treasury of stories and friendships Dale has made with woodturners over the past 50 years.

Recognized for his guidance and support of up-and-coming woodturners, Dale has influenced the world of woodturning for the better, encouraging turners to believe in themselves. The Dale Nish Collection reflects his influence on many unknown turners as well as the early works of some of today’s top professionals.

Be inspired by the woodturnings on display and the stories behind them as you experience this extraordinary exhibition of Selected Works from the Dale Nish Collection.

Hawaii's Woodshow, Na Laau o Hawaii

Details: For more than 20 years this signature statewide juried exhibition, featuring Hawaii-grown wood, has showcased works of leading woodworkers and novices from across all the islands.

Admission is Free. The Hawai'i Forest Industry Association Hawaii's Woodshow, Na Laau O Hawaii, was created to promote an appreciation for the remarkable variety of Hawaii-grown woods as well as for the talented woodworkers who call Hawaii home. Artists are limited to Hawaii-grown wood and are encouraged to use conservative techniques such as veneering to make the most effective use of woods in limited supply. Certain rare or endangered species are prohibited.
